| Hey Corinne, hows things?

Hey Lex! Things are really good thanks!

| Have you been getting some Spring swell action down there in Newquay?

I’ve been surfing heeps! The waves have been really fun in Cornwall and its finally starting to warm up, I’ve been surfing some different spots which are still right on my door step, which I’ve been loving!

| I’ve seen you’ve had some winter sun, fill us in!

You’re correct! I’ve just got back from the Canaries. I went on an actual holiday with my partner. We surfed loads, ate lots of delicious food and sampled some local cervezas! It was an absolute dream.

| What was the best thing about your trip?

The best this is surfing where you want when you want and getting to surf new waves and reefs.

| Do you have some more trips in the pipeline for this year?

I’m off to France in June/July to host my Girls Surf Camp. I love hanging out with the guys at Feral Surf Camp, glamping and surfing all day. What more could I want.

| You’re in your third summer of your Surf Girl Tours and they are going really well! Whats new for this season?

Yep I’m in my third year.. where has the time gone! This year I decided to changes things up a little and host ability specific lessons. I’m running Gidget (Beginner) Courses, Margo (Intermediate) Courses and Rell (Advanced) Courses. I just want to ensure I’m offering lessons for all ages and abilties.

| Whats the best thing about them?

It makes it easier for women when booking in and ensures they get the best possible coaching for their abilities!

| What locations have you got lined up this summer?

Newquay – Newquay Surfing School, Croyde – Croyde Surf Acadmey, Wales – Porthcawl Surf School, France – Feral Surf Camp Bordeaux

| So other than surfing you’re a model as well. Living the dream! Which do you prefer, surfing or modelling… or are they pretty much hand in hand?

They do pretty much go hand in hand but Surfing is my a real passion and the thing I will do even when I am really really old!

| You’re a busy girl, what do you do in your down time?

I practice a lot of yoga and pilates and cook a lot of food. My family and friends know me as a feeder. Nothing makes me happier than feeding people food I’ve cooked from scratch.

| What boards will you be riding this year?

This year I will mostly be riding my epic Doofer and Bettsy. Both boards are shaped my Luke Hart and Fourth Surfboards and are by far the best boards I have ever ridden. He’s shaped boards that have helped me progress a lot this year.

| What wetsuits are you loving?

I’m currently surfing the next season C-Skins Angel and Wired winter suits which as amazing. So flexible and warm. I am hoping it won’t be long till I’m surfing my C-Skins Rewire, it just needs to warm up a little.

| Whats going to be you season staple?

My season staples would have to be the Animal Ivella Swimsuit and Animal Napa Sandals. I am loving a swimsuit this season and you can’t go wrong with a pair of gladiator sandals.

| Summer tipple of choice?

It has to be Elderflower Presse, it’s just so delicious!

| What will you be whipping up in the kitchen this summer?

What won’t I be whipping up haha! I love cooking and I try and cook anything and everything.

| Shoutouts?

My sponsors… Animal C-Skins Fouth Surfboards Nalu Beads Northcore KE Surfboard Art.  And my legendary boyfriend/manager Ben Jones 😉

Girl Talk | Sophie Cordery

We caught up with UK Wakeboarder Sophie Cordery on her latest travels, places to party, wakeskating, surfing and what she’s into at the moment!

| Whats up Soph, enjoying being back in sunny England?

Hey Lex!  The weather actually has been pretty awesome since I’ve been back, so it hasn’t been too depressing! I’ve had loads of things to do too so haven’t just been moping about the house wishing I was back in the tropical weather of Thailand!!!

IMG_1903

| You’ve just got back from some time abroad.  Tell us about your trip. Where did you go and where did you ride?

We started off in Australia for a few weeks where we went to a few different places, hanging out surfing, fishing, scuba diving the Great Barrier Reef up in Cairns, sky diving, which was terrifying, but the most amazing feeling ever!!! We then headed down to Penrith to Cables Wake Park for the week before Boardstock.  After Oz we headed to Thailand for 6 weeks riding at Anthem Wake Park most of the time which is an awesome place, we also had a quick ride at Phuket Wake Park and then finished off the trip at Thai Wake Park with some familiar faces. We made a few trips to some Islands, which were amazing, and my favorite was Phi Phi.  The stunning views and the crazy beach parties made it!

| Whats the cable like?

Anthem Wake Park (where we spent most of our time) was a new cable only built in the last couple of years down in Phuket.  It’s run by the friendliest people, who made you feel at home the moment you arrived.  Its super high and they are adding obstacles to the park every week, which is cool!

IMG_1749

| Did you get to surf?  Did you dominate or flail like a fish on dry land, or a bit of both?

Yes, we hung out with Scotty Broome in Oz and he took us down to his holiday house down at Lake Conjola where we went surfing a couple of times!  I’ve only been once before in Cornwall where the waves were pretty tame and easy to catch where as over there we took a bit of a beating.  But however many times you got stuck in the impact zone, catching that one wave was the best feeling ever!

IMG_0429

| Favourite places of the trip?

One of the best places I went has got to be PhiPhi!! Was so beautiful and a lot of fun there!!! We went with a really good bunch of people and met loads more there!! Cheap buckets, boat trips, beach parties and tanning not more else I could’ve wanted!!  Another bar we found that was really cool was down in Phuket right in the corner of Kamala Beach.  It was hidden right at the end and was like a surfers tree house over looking the beach.  We hung out there for a bit had a few beers and watched the sun go down which was pretty sick!  Anthem Wakepark was one of my favourite cables mainly because of the people.  The guys that run it are super friendly and always telling us good places to visit and helping us out!  The cable is really high and in such a good location.  10 minutes from the closest beach and then following the coastline there was beaches after beaches with the bluest oceans!

| You’re Beau is wakeskater Ollie Moore who was also your travel companion.  And you’ve been known to partake in a few wake skate comps of the international variety in the past.  Did you teach him a thing or two on the wake skate while you were away?

I think I taught him how to do the longest back butter slide on the wakeskate but other than that unfortunately not haha!  He has taught me a lot!   Being crazy good on the skate he picks up a wakeboard and makes it look very easy within seconds of riding it, which is extremely frustrating if I’ve been working on something and he goes straight out and does it in front of me.

It’s pretty good being with someone who also has the same interests and its great having some one there all the time to correct you or tell you when you’ve just done something pretty lame.  Annoying at the time… but its for the best?

| Whats getting you excited about this coming season.

Just seeing and hanging out with everyone again.   The scene dies a bit during the winter in the UK and everyone sort of has their own separate winter plans.

| What board you gonna ride?

I think I’m going to ride the Deluxe 132 I broke my board in Thailand which I loved [Symbol]  but luckily it happened just a couple of hours before we were due to leave.   But I’m still waiting on a new board and cant wait for it to come.

| What will you be wearing?

Bit of this bit of that.  Ollie gets a lot of deliveries so I always steal something if it’s too small for him.  My favourite suit is my purple oneill 3:2 which is so comfy and I don’t like to get cold so I will be wearing it most of the time, but on those hot summer days just a pair of shorts and whatever life jacket I can grab that day.

| Whats your training looking like?

Due to previous knee injuries I have to keep my leg strong by going to the gym, which I admit I’m not very good at, other than that, I just ride down at my home cable JBSki.   There is such a good crew down there and there is always someone to ride with.  The new system 2.0 down there is also a great way to learn and get confident with new tricks.

Which comps are you thinking of doing?

The nationals, which are in July, Euros in Poland and Worlds In Norway and hopefully a few others over seas.

Whats something you’re obsessed with at the moment?

I’m pretty obsessed with Frozen right now; the songs make the whole film.

Shoutouts?

JBSKI my home cable, my parents, Ollie and everyone else who has supported me over the last couple of years.

Girl Talk | Charlotte Bryant

I caught up with Pro Wakeboarder Charlotte Bryant recently to talk wake, fitness and her upcoming season….

image-4-Hi Charlotte, hows things?
Hi Lex, things are good thanks!

-So I see you’re cruising the new Hyperlite kit, hows that going?  Yeah pretty awesome, have only been out on the board once and think it will be a great relationship!

Have you escaped the UK this winter?  Yes I went to Snow and Wake and hit the slopes up for the first time since I was in primary school, it was interesting to say the least. But other than that I have been here in the UK taking a bit of time off of riding to rest my body and be fresh for the 2014 season.

-Have you enjoyed a baltic session here in the UK over the last couple of months? Yes! I went and played on the new pool down at LWP the other day and have ridden boat at Quayside a few times. It’s actually not as cold as I thought it would be! Must be my awesome pink tiedye billabong suit!

-Haha Nice!  What do you have to do to get amped to ride in the cold?   Top three tips…   1. Have a great wetsuit from Billabong waiting to keep you warm.  2. Get my friends to come down and ride with me, riding with friends is always funner.  3. Knowing that those Floridians and Aussies are still out there training and progressing so I need to keep at it.  Also they think you’re hardcore for riding in cold! Haha.

image-2-What are your travel plans for 2014?  I am mainly going to be Stateside this season but I have not really got any set in stone yet. I’ll keep everyone posted on my social media!  Go and follow me 😉 lol

-Any major comps/events you got lined up?  I want to do the USA scene this year if I am riding ok.  But other than that the standard Europeans etc!

image-Whats your training regime looking like?  Do you workout?  Oh yes I am doing some sort of training at least 5/6times a week. Whether it be cardio or a session with James down at Lakeside. Summer time I will not workout as much but will keep up with the cardio and probably 1 strength/agility style training session a week.

-Top three tips for being at your peak riding/fitness level during the competitive season?

1. Cardio – make sure you do it before the season starts you can do a bit during the season too you can never do enough of it.  Being cardio fit is completely different to strength fit.  You’ll be able to ride a lot longer.

2. Rest – rest is just as important as working out.  Your muscles cannot recover and repair unless you rest them up by having at least one day off a week.

3. Eating the right things – breakfast!!  Fuel your body as soon as you wake up, getting enough variety in your diet.  Lots of protein to help muscles and their recovery, carbohydrates for the energy, mix it up don’t drink loads of fizzy pop it may give you a sugar high but it only last for a little bit!

-Thanks for the catch up Charlotte!  See you on the water 🙂
