My Coaching background:
I have been wakeboarding for the past 24 years and I’ve seen the sport grow and develop into what it is today. While I have dabbled in boat riding over the years, my main focus has been cable parks as I like the extended time I get on the water and can spend laps and laps working on specific tricks.
I have competed for over a decade here in the UK from the Ten Feet Highs to the Nationals, from Wakestocks Pool Gap to the European Tour and have gained valuable knowledge along the way.
Rolled into my wakeboarding career is a fair amount of coaching. I started off working at a lake and teaching the FastStart lessons taking complete beginners from kneeboarding to wakeboarding. I then started doing Ladies Mornings over at Box End Park. I then branched out and hosted at WakeMK. I have also hosted Ladies Morning and Girls Days / Workshops at FestWake, Quays, JB Waterski, Hove Lagoon, Club Wake Park, Peterborough Wake Park, Ellingham Waterski, and Xtreme Wake. All with one goal in mind, to create a path for getting more women into the sport and making sure they had fun while doing it.
One-to-one Coaching started towards the end of 2012, when I took on the GB Team rider Lottie Harbottle, and so I decided to work towards my Level 3 Wakeboard Coaching Qualification. When I started working with Lottie she had a couple of air tricks, a kicker flip and spin and some rail work under her belt. By the end of 2013 she was ranked No. 1 in the World in the Girls category. And with a plethora of air tricks, kicker flips and spins, and technical rail variations, she then moved up to Junior Ladies and was ranked No. 2 in the World along with a couple of National Titles, a Silver Medal at the Europeans and a Bronze and the Worlds. She was also ranked No. 1 in the World in Junior Ladies.
In 2014 I started working with BWSW as either Head or Assistant Coach on the Talent Development Programme alongside the British Team Head Coach. This is an entirely different level of coaching as, here in the UK, we are fortunate enough to have some of the best wakeboarders in the world who push the standards to ridiculously high levels.
In 2015 I started working with the now GB Team athlete Izzy Goode. She had only been riding a short while but is now landing multiple air tricks, kicker flips and spins, and a great improvement on her rail work. She has multiple British Titles under belt and was also ranked Number 1 in the world during our time working together.
Whether you’re looking to try wakeboarding for the first time or you’re a seasoned pro, it always helps to have someone on the sideline supporting you along your journey.
